Private Member’s Motion No. 90

That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should develop and implement a post-secondary institution hate-related incident directive that, among other things, requires a response to be made to incidents and complaints within 30 days, includes a requirement for annual reporting by colleges and universities to the Minister of Colleges and Universities on hate-related incidents, and enforces compliance with the directive’s provisions, including penalties for noncompliance.

Last week, I tabled my Private Member’s Motion #90 – Protecting Our Students From Hate, which works together with Bill 166, Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act, 2024. This legislation, if passed, will hold our colleges and universities accountable for student safety on campus, especially when it comes to hate.

We have heard from countless parents and students alike who are concerned about the escalating levels of incidents in our post-secondary institutions. I want to thank Minister Jill Dunlop for her leadership on this troubling issue.
