Ontario Breaks Ground on Bowmanville GO Extension

The Ontario government has broken ground on GO Transit’s Bowmanville Extension, marking another milestone in the province’s plan to protect Ontario by relieving gridlock and expanding access to affordable and reliable transit. The project will extend the Lakeshore East GO line 18.7 kilometres into Durham Region, accommodating 17,000 daily trips and 4.9 million boardings annually by 2041. Once complete, the Bowmanville Extension will deliver two-way, all-day service, saving commuters time and money, while bringing families closer to housing and putting 10,400 jobs within walking distance of transit.

Ontario Celebrates Arrival of First Northlander Train

The Ontario government is marking a major milestone in its commitment to bring back the Northlander with the arrival of the first of three new Northlander trainsets in Ontario. The Northlander will span 740 kilometres with 16 stops between Timmins and Toronto, with a connection to Cochrane, and is part of the government’s work to protect Ontario’s economy by connecting northern communities, creating good-paying jobs, supporting local industries and driving economic growth across the north.

Ontario Investing in GO Transit Bi-level Rail Coaches

The Ontario government is investing nearly $500 million to refurbish 181 GO Transit bi-level rail coaches at the Alstom plant in Thunder Bay. This investment is part of the ongoing service expansion across the GO rail network and will support hundreds of manufacturing jobs and economic prosperity in northwestern Ontario.

Ontario Building Highways Faster to Get Drivers Moving

TORONTO — The Ontario government is introducing legislation that would, if passed, allow the province to build highways faster, getting drivers out of gridlock and where they need to go. The Building Highways Faster Act would designate priority highway projects to speed up construction, with Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass and the Garden City Skyway bridge all set to receive this designation.

Ontario Fighting Gridlock and Making Life Easier for Drivers

TORONTO — The Ontario government is making life easier for drivers by introducing legislation that would, if passed, require municipalities to receive approval from the province before installing new bike lanes that would result in the removal of lanes for traffic. Municipalities would be required to demonstrate that the proposed bike lanes won’t have a negative impact on vehicle traffic.

Construction Now Underway Along the Entire Ontario Line

TORONTO — The Ontario government has officially begun work along all parts of the Ontario Line subway, marking a significant milestone in the province’s plan to bring nearly 230,000 people within walking distance of fast and convenient public transit. Under the final contract, work has begun to build the Don Valley Crossing Bridge and the West Don Crossing Bridge, which will carry Ontario Line trains across the Don Valley toward the downtown core.

Ontario Exploring Feasibility of New Highway 401 Tunnel Expressway

TORONTO — Today, the Ontario government launched the technical evaluation for the construction of a new driver and transit tunnel expressway under Highway 401. This expressway is expected to provide a new, faster route for some of the most gridlocked roadways in the province north of the City of Toronto, extending from beyond Brampton and Mississauga in the west to beyond Markham and Scarborough in the east. This project is expected to significantly reduce traffic in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) while supporting economic growth during construction and in the long-term by helping to get goods and services to market sooner.

The Ontario government has officially broken ground on King-Bathurst, Queen-Spadina and Moss Park Stations, marking another milestone in the province’s plan to build the Ontario Line and create a reliable and continuous transit line that connects communities throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Ontario Accelerating Construction on the Gardiner Expressway by at Least One Year

The Ontario government is helping to accelerate construction on the Gardiner Expressway by at least one year by providing up to $73 million to the City of Toronto on the condition that work may be allowed to proceed up to a 24/7 basis. This accelerated timeline moves the construction completion date from April 2027 to at least April 2026, which will benefit Ontario’s economy by an estimated $273 million by getting drivers and goods out of gridlock a year faster than planned.

Ontario Building Safer Roads and Communities

Today, the Ontario government introduced legislation that, if passed, would improve community safety and protect people and families from road users who engage in dangerous and illegal activities such as impaired driving, stunt driving and auto theft. The Safer Roads and Communities Act would also strengthen the province’s commercial vehicle enforcement program and improve e-bike safety.

Ontario Investing $17,776,683 in York Region Transit

The Ontario government is supporting transit in York Region with a $17,776,683 investment from the 2023-24 Gas Tax program. The funding can be used to expand service hours, increase routes, purchase new vehicles and improve accessibility to increase transit ridership.
