Ontario Fighting Auto Theft by Cracking Down on Car Thieves

As part of a series of proposed changes to protect Ontario communities by cracking down on crime, the province is proposing new legislation that would amend the Highway Traffic Act to give police the authority to search for and seize electronic devices that are intended to be used for vehicle theft. The change would provide law enforcement with stronger tools to keep keyless devices off the streets and out of the hands of would-be criminals.

Ontario Returning Over $2.5 Billion to Workers and Businesses Through Fee Reductions and WSIB Rebates

TORONTO — The Ontario government is keeping costs down for workers and businesses by giving back over $2.5 billion by rebating Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) surpluses to hundreds of thousands of safe employers, reducing business premium rates and investing in keeping workers healthy and safe. These ground-breaking measures will pump billions of dollars back into the economy, helping to rebuild Ontario’s economy and support workers.

Ontario Giving Police More Tools to Monitor Registered Sex Offenders

THORNHILL — The Ontario government will soon introduce amendments to Christopher’s Law, that, if passed, will strengthen Ontario’s Sex Offender Registry by giving police more tools to better monitor and supervise registered sex offenders. The government is also proposing changes that would prevent these convicted sex offenders from legally changing their names in Ontario.

Ontario Cracking Down on Auto Theft and Careless Driving

TORONTO — The Ontario government is cracking down on auto theft by introducing legislation that, if passed, would create a new provincial offence for fraudulent vehicle registrations. This is one of a series of measures being taken by the provincial government to fight auto theft, including providing additional funding and equipment to police services to tackle auto theft and introducing legislation that would suspend the driver’s licences of those who are convicted of motor vehicle theft, including lifetime bans for repeat offenders.

Ontario Introducing Legislation to Support Victims of Crime and Enhance Community Safety

Today, the Ontario government will introduce proposed legislation, that, if passed, would make it easier for more victims of crime to sue an offender for emotional distress. The proposed Enhancing Access to Justice Act, 2023 would also protect children and youth from cannabis, enhance community safety and make court and government operations more efficient.
