Ontario Restoring Vehicle Lanes on Toronto’s Busiest Streets

Following the recent ruling from the Ontario Court of Appeal, the provincial government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to begin the process of restoring motor vehicle lanes that were previously removed for bike lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street, University Avenue, Queen’s Park, Queen’s Park Crescent and Avenue Road in Toronto. The province is also immediately beginning to restore motor vehicle lanes on Bloor Street West, starting east of a 600-metre section at Clissold Road where vehicle lanes were restored in December 2025.

Ontario Invests $200,000 to Improve Community Spaces in Thornhill

The Ontario government provided Reena with $200,000 in funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation's (OTF) Capital grant stream. This investment helped to improve the Toby and Henry Battle Developmental Centre, expand access to local programs and activities, and ensured residents could continue to benefit from the services that make Thornhill a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Ontario and Canada Investing $1 Billion to Build More Homes

The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing $1 billion to help municipalities, that do not levy development charges, build more homes. The funding is being provided through a new Non-Development Charge Municipalities Stream (Non-DC Stream) made possible by the Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build. These funds will help eligible municipalities build and renew critical infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and water systems that enable new housing and protect the existing housing supply, while supporting lower home costs for families across the province.

Ontario Strengthening Bail Requirements to Protect Communities

Effective August 17, 2026, the Ontario government is bringing into force new measures to strengthen the province’s bail system and protect Ontario communities. As part of the government’s comprehensive bail strategy and ongoing work to make bail more real and consequential for people accused of serious crimes, these new measures will improve bail compliance, keep violent, repeat offenders behind bars and make it easier for the province to collect forfeited bail payments when bail conditions are violated.

The Ontario government is taking the next steps in its plan to expand access to fertility care as part of its historic $250 million investment to help more families access life-changing fertility treatment. Through this next phase, the province is investing $100 million in 2026/27 to support 27 clinics across Ontario, including two new in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinics, helping to shorten wait times and connect thousands of families to fertility services in both hospital and community settings.

Ontario’s Joint Air Support Unit Deploys First Helicopter in Peel Region

As part of its plan to protect Ontario and keep communities safe, the Ontario government has delivered the first Joint Air Support Unit helicopter in Peel Region. The deployment marks the first helicopter to enter service through Ontario's Joint Air Support Unit, a $191 million provincewide initiative that is expanding aerial policing capacity across Ontario.

MPP Laura Smith announces $19,071 Seniors Community Grant for Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) in Thornhill

Last week, Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill announced that Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) has received a Seniors Community Grant bringing seniors together in Thornhill.  “Our seniors built the communities we enjoy today, and they deserve every opportunity to stay active, connected, and engaged,” said Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill. “By investing in FCAV, we’re helping ensure seniors can benefit from a wide range of programs that support healthy, independent and socially connected lives right in here in our community.”

Ontario Hosting 2026 Indy Race in Markham

The Ontario government is investing $1.5 million to support the 2026 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham, strengthening Ontario's position as a premier destination for world-class sporting events while supporting jobs, tourism and economic growth. As the only Canadian stop on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar, the event will take place from August 14 to 16, 2026 and is expected to draw more than 150,000 attendees over the three-day weekend, generating tens of millions in economic activity for the province through sport tourism, hospitality and event services.

Major Construction Underway for Yonge North Subway Extension

The Ontario government has officially completed excavation of the tunnel launch shaft for the Yonge North Subway Extension, marking a major milestone in the province’s plan to relieve gridlock across the Greater Toronto Area by expanding access to fast, affordable and reliable public transit. The project will extend the TTC’s Line 1 subway nearly eight kilometres north from Finch Station to Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill, moving more than 94,000 riders each day and putting nearly 23,000 jobs within walking distance of transit.

Ontario Joins Landmark Canada-Wide Direct-to-Consumer Alcohol Sales Agreement

Today, Premier Doug Ford along with premiers of eight other Canadian provinces — British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador — signed a historic agreement that will allow direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales of alcoholic beverages between their individual jurisdictions for personal use. This new agreement is building a more open and united Canadian economy by removing a major trade barrier within Canada. It was co-led by Ontario and Saskatchewan and reflects collaboration among all participating jurisdictions, building on the commitments made in the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on DTC sales of alcoholic beverages and is a major part of Ontario’s plan to remove barriers to free and open trade between Canadian provinces and territories. Negotiations on the agreement concluded earlier this year.
