Ontario Expanding Scope of Practice for Pharmacists and Other Health Professionals

To protect Ontario’s health-care system and provide more connected and convenient care to people around the province, the government is allowing pharmacists to administer additional publicly funded vaccines that protect against six diseases and assess and prescribe for a further nine common ailments. This historic expansion of their scope of practice will improve access to care and reduce pressure on the health-care system by empowering health professionals to provide care to the full extent of their training and making pharmacies a one-stop location for convenient, everyday care.

Ontario Connecting 4,397 More People to Primary Care in Thornhill

The Ontario government is taking the next steps to deliver its Primary Care Action Plan, which is on track to connect everyone in the province to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029. As part of this plan to connect everyone in Ontario to a publicly funded family doctor or primary care team, the Ontario government is investing $1,901,200 this year to connect up to 4397 people to primary care in Thornhill.

A Plan to Protect Ontario

Today, Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy released the 2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. In the midst of tariffs and economic uncertainty, the government continues to deliver on its plan to protect Ontario by building the most competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy in the G7, including through significant tax relief contained in the next phase of Ontario’s Tax Action Plan. The 2026 Budget furthers the government’s plan to attract jobs and investment, lower costs for workers and businesses, keep life affordable for families and individuals and make targeted investments in key public services that support the province’s long-term prosperity.

Ontario Creating New Provincewide Primary Care Medical Record System

The Ontario government is taking the next steps to deliver its Primary Care Action Plan, which is on track to connect everyone in the province to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029. As part of its plan, Ontario is advancing a new provincewide Primary Care Medical Record system that will integrate patient records, reduce paperwork for doctors and improve the quality of care received by patients. Through the 2026 Budget, the province is also increasing overall funding for the plan to a total of $3.4 billion between 2025 and 2029.

Ontario Increasing Access to Dementia Care in Long-Term Care Homes

The Ontario government is strengthening dementia care at long-term care homes, by announcing the first 17 homes participating in the new Improving Dementia Care Program (IDCP) and increasing access to behavioural specialized units (BSUs). The government is investing $9 million over three years in the IDCP to better support residents living with dementia and is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario’s long-term care system by making targeted investments that ensure residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.

Ontario Investing Nearly $100 Million to Protect and Support Long-Term Care

The Ontario government is delivering on its plan to protect Ontario’s long-term care system by investing nearly $100 million to support staffing at long-term care homes across York Region, including $3.2 million for the Newmarket Health Centre municipal home. These investments are part of the government’s record $1.92 billion annual funding to support the significant increase in staffing in the province’s long-term care homes across the province.

Ontario Fast-Tracking Access to Six Breakthrough Cancer Drugs

The Ontario government is continuing to lead the world in cancer care by approving access to six new life-extending cancer treatments through the Funding Accelerated for Specific Treatments (FAST) program. This first-in-Canada initiative is fast-tracking access to breakthrough cancer drugs, giving patients in need faster access to life-changing treatment options. This bold initiative will continue to connect patients to life-saving cancer treatments almost a full year sooner, as part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario’s health-care system.

Ontario Marks One Year Milestone in Primary Care Action Plan

Ontario is marking one year of progress on its $2.1 billion Primary Care Action Plan, which is already delivering results and connecting more people to convenient care as part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario’s health-care system. Since the initiative began, Ontario has already attached over 275,000 new patients to a primary care provider, putting the province on track to meet or exceed its target of connecting 300,000 new people to care in 2025-26 and every Ontarian to a primary care provider by 2029.

Ontario Reducing Wait Times for Orthopedic Surgeries

The Ontario government is investing $125 million over two years to add four new community surgical and diagnostic centres licensed to deliver orthopedic surgeries across the province. This expansion will reduce wait times and support up to 20,000 additional publicly funded orthopedic surgeries as part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario’s health-care system.

The Ontario government is taking action to help more families access fertility treatments by investing $250 million to expand access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) under the Ontario Fertility Program (OFP). As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by improving public services, the funding will support 25 clinics, including six new IVF clinics, to shorten waitlists for fertility services in both hospital and community settings.
