Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill, and Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan, announced that First Chinese Seniors’ Association of Vaughan (FCSAV) has received a Seniors Community Grant bringing seniors together in Thornhill.
The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing $1 billion to help municipalities, that do not levy development charges, build more homes. The funding is being provided through a new Non-Development Charge Municipalities Stream (Non-DC Stream) made possible by the Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build. These funds will help eligible municipalities build and renew critical infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and water systems that enable new housing and protect the existing housing supply, while supporting lower home costs for families across the province.

The Ontario government is investing $1.5 million to support the 2026 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham, strengthening Ontario's position as a premier destination for world-class sporting events while supporting jobs, tourism and economic growth. As the only Canadian stop on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar, the event will take place from August 14 to 16, 2026 and is expected to draw more than 150,000 attendees over the three-day weekend, generating tens of millions in economic activity for the province through sport tourism, hospitality and event services.
Today, Premier Doug Ford along with premiers of eight other Canadian provinces — British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador — signed a historic agreement that will allow direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales of alcoholic beverages between their individual jurisdictions for personal use. This new agreement is building a more open and united Canadian economy by removing a major trade barrier within Canada. It was co-led by Ontario and Saskatchewan and reflects collaboration among all participating jurisdictions, building on the commitments made in the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on DTC sales of alcoholic beverages and is a major part of Ontario’s plan to remove barriers to free and open trade between Canadian provinces and territories. Negotiations on the agreement concluded earlier this year.
The Government of Ontario is strengthening protective measures against hate-motivated incidents by investing $600,000 in a targeted one-time funding stream for Jewish summer camps. Delivered through the Ontario Anti-Hate Security and Prevention (AHSP) grant, the investment will support community-led safety measures to safeguard campers and staff across the province.
To protect Ontario’s health-care system and provide more connected and convenient care to people around the province, the government is allowing pharmacists to administer additional publicly funded vaccines that protect against six diseases and assess and prescribe for a further nine common ailments. This historic expansion of their scope of practice will improve access to care and reduce pressure on the health-care system by empowering health professionals to provide care to the full extent of their training and making pharmacies a one-stop location for convenient, everyday care.

Today, Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill, announced that through Ontario’s $12,500 start-up investment and ongoing funding of up to $55,000 per year, the government is launching a new Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) Program in Thornhill.
Today, the Ontario government released a plan to accelerate the completion of construction on the all-seasons roads to the Ring of Fire five years ahead of schedule, with construction planned to start in June 2026 and roads beginning to open in November 2030.
On Sunday, Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill and Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan announced that renovations for accessibility upgrades at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre (SRC) Fitness Centre are now complete. The upgrades were made possible by a $162,000 Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was awarded last summer to create an accessible fitness space for individuals with mobility challenges. MPP Smith joined MPP Lecce at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre's annual Purim Palooza event, the largest in the Toronto area, to recognize this investment from the Ontario Government with local families.
