THORNHILL — The Ontario government is supporting an investment of $9,060,688 by Accord Plastics Corp. to boost local manufacturing and create 12 new good-paying jobs in Concord.
This funding was announced today by Laura Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Thornhill.
“Our government is building a strong Ontario and creating the conditions for a strong economy by supporting key investments in our community,” said MPP Smith. “Accord Plastics Corp.’s investment will boost the local manufacturing sector and create more good-paying jobs for workers and families in Thornhill.”
With this investment, Accord Plastics Corp. will construct an additional floor to expand their manufacturing footprint to 43,000 sq. ft from the current 30,000 sq. ft. and add eight new extrusion lines with more energy efficient chilled water and air systems. The project will focus on energy and cardboard reduction, while also exploring alternate materials for current PVC use.
The investment will also support the company’s initiative of manufacturing recyclable products for the markets, as current production is at capacity. Through the expansion of floor space and addition of extrusion lines, Accord will be able to switch from a single strand extruding currently used in production to a multi-strand extruding process, increasing volume output rates two to four times.
“Employing more than 800,000 workers across the province, Ontario’s manufacturing sector is the economic engine of our nation,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Our government is proud to support local companies like Accord Plastics Corp as they expand their operations, and we thank them for their contributions to Ontario’s dynamic and growing manufacturing ecosystem.”
In support of their investment, Ontario is providing Accord Plastics Corp. with $480,214 in funding through the Regional Development Program’s Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) Stream.
“We are excited to be able to expand our capacity while staying in our location in Vaughan. This gives Accord a new platform to grow and continue to serve the needs of the plastics market that it has enjoyed for 35 years now,” said Robert Ciancio, CEO and Founder of Accord Plastics Corp. “Having my sons work with me and take this business into the second generation is exciting for me personally and giving them the capacity to create new and innovative products and services while staying in Vaughan is very rewarding.”
Ontario is investing $180 million through its Regional Development Program to help manufacturers across the province grow while supporting distinct regional priorities. To date, Ontario has supported more than 135 projects through the program, leveraging more than $1.9 billion in new investments and helping to create over 3,500 jobs.
