Letar will create 19 new, good-paying jobs and protect 27 existing positions in Thornhill
THORNHILL — The Ontario government is welcoming an investment of $5,264,923 by Letar Inc., a tier 1 manufacturer of aircraft and telecom components in the aerospace and defence sector, to expand their operations and create 19 new, good-paying jobs in Thornhill.
The investment was announced today by Laura Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Thornhill.
“Aerospace manufacturing is one of the most advanced and precision-driven industries in the world, and today’s announcement reinforces Ontario’s position as a global leader in building the technologies of the future,” said MPP Smith. “Our government remains committed to supporting investments that grow our workforce, strengthen supply chains, and create long-term opportunity right here in Thornhill and across Ontario.”
With this investment, Letar will expand their facility by 10,000 sq ft. and acquire robotic automation technologies to increase productivity. These enhancements will allow them to fabricate and test highly specialized products required by their aerospace, defense and OEM clients.
A key facet of the project is the investment in advanced 5-axis milling machines to enable higher-precision machining, faster production, and the manufacture of complex aerospace components, strengthening Letar Inc.’s competitiveness on a global scale.
“This investment represents a major step forward for our company and for Ontario’s aerospace sector,” said Armaan Jain, Managing Director of Letar. “As we continue to grow our advanced manufacturing capabilities, we are strengthening Ontario’s domestic aerospace ecosystem while expanding our workforce and upskilling our people. We are proud to be supported by the AMIC program and the Government of Ontario in advancing this initiative.”
In support of this investment, the government is providing Letar with $753,738 in funding through the Regional Development Program’s Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) Stream.
“Employing more than 800,000 workers across the province, Ontario’s manufacturing sector is the economic engine of our nation,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Our government is proud to support local companies like Letar as they expand their operations, and we thank them for their contributions to Ontario’s dynamic and growing manufacturing ecosystem.”
Ontario is investing over $250 million through its Regional Development Program to help manufacturers across the province grow while supporting distinct regional priorities. To date, Ontario has supported more than 215 projects through the program, leveraging more than $2.8 billion in new investments and helping to create over 5,900 jobs.
QUICK FACTS
- The government launched the Regional Development Program (RDP) for eastern and southwestern regions of Ontario in November 2019. Through this program, businesses and municipalities can get financial support and guided access to a range of complementary services and supports.
- In 2022, the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream of the RDP was launched to support advanced manufacturers across the province. Ontario is now providing additional funds to enhance the AMIC stream that will help more firms with the financial support and tools needed to improve competitiveness, while strengthening essential supply chains.
- Additionally, Ontario has launched a new $150 million Ontario Together Trade Fund to assist local businesses in taking advantage of new interprovincial trade opportunities.
