Ontario Preparing Students for Success

The Ontario government is providing new student supports and updating curriculum for the 2023-24 school year. These actions will refocus school boards on the development of foundational skills in reading, writing and math, supported by almost $700 million more in base education funding, $109 million in a new strategy to boost literacy rates, and the hiring of 2,000 more educators.

Ontario Welcomes $5 Million Manufacturing Investment

The Ontario government is welcoming a $5 million investment by Macrodyne Technologies Inc., North America’s largest manufacturer of hydraulic presses and automation systems, equipment used by manufacturers in over 40 industries to shape and mould materials such as metal, plastic, rubber and wood. This investment will be used to purchase the latest manufacturing technology for the company’s facilities in Vaughan and create 25 new good-paying jobs for machine builders, electricians, hydraulic technicians and engineers.

Ontario Building Better, More Modern Facilities in Richmond Hill

As part of Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is improving hospital and community care by investing over $704,170.00 this year to support critical upgrades and repairs at Mackenzie Health. This funding is part of the government’s investment of over $208 million provided through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund and the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund to 131 hospitals and 58 community health facilities across the province.

OTF Grant To Help Keep Disability Services Financially Accessible for Families of Young Children

On Wednesday, local MPP Laura Smith met hundreds of families at Kayla’s Children Centre (KCC) to announce a $200,000 Resilient Communities fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The families were thrilled to hear about the grant received and the positive impact it will have on the Centre.

OVIN to launch demonstration sites for automotive and mobility technologies

The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) is launching the new OVIN Demonstration Zone in partnership with the City of Vaughan and the City of Markham. This new $7.3 million project includes $2.5 million in support from the Ontario government through OVIN and $1.4 million in combined funding from the City of Vaughan and the City of Markham.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for DANI Clark Campus’ Newly Expanded Accessible Catering Kitchen

On Wednesday, MPP Laura Smith and Nalin De Silva, an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) volunteer were at the Clark Avenue Campus for DANI (Developing and Nurturing Independence). Last year, DANI received a $96,000 Capital grant from OTF to help it renovate their social-enterprise kitchen to help it continue to meet the growing training/employment needs of the neuro-diverse community.

Ontario Investing in Toronto Holocaust Museum

Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill, a tireless advocate in government for education to combat antisemitism, was pleased to join Premier Doug Ford on Friday to announce that Ontario is contributing $500,000 in funding for the newly opened Toronto Holocaust Museum to support educators, education programs, partnerships with community organizations and security.
